Good wind for thrills and spills!
On 23-24th October we were delighted to host the RS Feva Autumn Championships. Coinciding with half term, entries were slightly lower than originally anticipated with a number of families taking advantage of the lifting of Covid travel restrictions to get away.
The weather turned out to be good and the wind cooperated as well to provide plenty of thrills and spills. Race Officer Peter Saxton delayed the Saturday start by an hour to allow the wind to fill in and the direction to settle. Thereafter it blew steadily at 13-18 knots from the SSW and four substantial races were completed over a windward/leeward course. The sailors were well exercised, if not very tired by the end of the day.
Sunday brought a little more wind, lots of sunshine and great sailing in three great races.
Very seldom does anyone have a perfect set of results: Tristan Ahlheid and Finlay Lomas-Clarke from Frensham Pond Sailing Club achieved this and actually discarded a first place! Second were Maya Bergmann-Smith and Emilia Ripley from HISC, and third Mark Jenkins Jauma and Alex Sydenham also from HISC. Fourth were siblings William and Agnes Bracey-Davis from RLymYC.
One very notable competitor was Lymington’s Richard Breese, the current Optimist Class Chairman, crewing for his 11 year old son Alex.
We look forward to welcoming the RS Feva Class back in March 2022 for the Spring Championships.
Join the RS Feva squad at RLymYC!
Our RS Feva Fleet is growing, with young sailors transitioning from both the Optimist and RS Tera pathway into this excellent double-hander. A number of Lymington helms and crews have been selected for the RYA Regional Training Groups, which have replaced the previous National Squad and Class Squad.
Regular training takes place throughout the season, including over the winter months and sailors are encouraged to take part in the club’s regular evening races. The club has four boats available for members to hire, which can be used for training or racing.
