RS Feva Fleet

Royal Lymington Yacht Club RS Feva Fleet

The RS Feva is the world’s best-selling two-person sailboat in recent years. It is a one design, hiking, asymmetric spinnaker boat, ideal for youngsters and parent/child combinations to sail before transitioning to a 29er or 420 or any other double hander. The boat offers the chance to sail with a friend and the opportunity to learn how to fly an asymmetric spinnaker. The suggested combined sailor weight is 85 to 110kg. The Feva is built using a hard-wearing pioneering construction technique which is virtually indestructible and has a modern yet simple rig. The class has a competitive National and International racing circuit and is an RYA Supported Junior class.

Feva Sailing in Lymington

The Royal Lymington Yacht Club RS Feva Fleet is a growing fleet, with young sailors transitioning from both the Optimist and RS Tera pathway into this excellent double-hander. A number of Lymington helms and crews have been selected for the RYA Regional Training Groups, which have replaced the previous National Squad and Class Squad.

Regular training takes place throughout the season, including over the winter months and sailors are encouraged to take part in the club’s regular evening races. The club has four boats available for members to hire, which can be used for training or racing.

Feva Coaching

Lymington boasts an active group of Feva sailors, boys and girls, with a range of abilities - from those starting out in a new boat, to some of the best in the country.

The club organises regular coaching sessions, which involve a mix of fleet racing and team racing.  Both require boat handling skills, but team racing also helps develop a solid knowledge of the rules and tactics as the aim is to establish an overall winning combination over opposing teams. Many sailors who go to university and join the sailing teams there will learn to team race so this a great opportunity to learn this skill.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer helming or crewing the safety ribs. Rib helms are required to have RYA PB2 and the Club runs courses throughout the year, enabling interested parents in gaining this qualification (subsidised for Full/Family Members).

We welcome visiting sailors to our Open Training, however there are many benefits to becoming a member of the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. They are two ways that children can become members:

1. Full Family Membership

We offer discounted family membership rates and children aged under 18 join FREE when parents take up family membership. This type of membership brings the most benefits, including subsidised coaching, full use of the club’s facilities including our restaurant and bar (with members' rates for food and drink), access to our dinghy storage parks, access to club boats and SUPs to hire, discounted rates for training courses and inclusion in our adventure sailing and social programmes. Full members also enjoy full use of our waterfront facilities including overnight mooring on our pontoons with electricity and water, launch service to river moorings or tenders to borrow, boatmen services including our on-site crane at discounted members' rate. Find out more and join us!

2. Junior Membership

Children can join in their own right as Junior Members. The annual subscription is the only as much as the cost of a buoyancy aid and this brings slightly subsidised coaching (although the discount is not as great as Family Members). Find out more and join us!

Join our Feva Fleet!

With double-handers, establishing a pairing is a perennial challenge.  When we came out of Covid lockdown last Summer, a number of parents teamed up with their youngsters to enable them to get on the water. This worked well and the youngsters soon found a partner. We encourage this again. We also now have a new WhatsApp group called 'Feva Teams'. Anyone in the market for a helm or crew should speak to the Fleet Captain.

Please do get in touch with the Fleet Captain by email on sail@rlymyc.org.uk if you would like to find out more about Feva sailing in Lymington or to join the RLymYC Feva Fleet WhatsApp group, or call the club office on 01590 672677.

If you are thinking of buying a Feva or would like to join in with club training we welcome non-members to training alongside our club members, please contact the Fleet Captain.
