Optimists, RS Teras and RS Fevas racing in Weymouth
On the 25th and 26th September 2021 the RYA Regional Youth Championships were held for Optimists, RS Fevas, RS Teras, and Toppers at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA).
We were sailing our RS Teras for the weekend. Sailing at Weymouth was another highlight of our sailing calendar. Lots of medals were won by our fantastic team of RS Tera sailors here at Royal Lymington Yacht Club.
The organisers made the weekend a very welcoming event for all sailors no matter their ability. There was an "Onboard" for beginners and young children to help boost their confidence, there was a Regatta Fleet for children who wanted to race but had support from RIBs to help them along, and then we have the Main Fleet for the older, more competitive and experienced sailors.
On day one it was light winds and not the most ideal sailing conditions. However, we went out and gave it a go, but our first race was abandoned before everyone had finished and we all came back in. On day 2 we came back full of hope for a day of racing. The forecast was for 15 knots gusting 20 knots. We managed to get in 4 races successfully and this meant that everyone got a discard.
Overall the weekend was an amazing success and lots of fun! There we so many participants from Royal Lymington Yacht Club and some very good results which meant the Club won an award too.
