More success for Royal Lymington Optimists!

Last weekend fifteen young sailors from Royal Lymington Yacht Club travelled to Rutland Water to compete in the IOCA Gill (UK) Winter Championships. Congratulations to Ben McEwen (pictured), overall winner of Regatta Fleet, and also to Junior Member, Archie Munro-Price, overall winner of Main Fleet.

The conditions for the weekend were mixed, with a gentle breeze on Saturday followed by a very strong and super-cold northerly wind on Sunday.

Main Fleet

In Main Fleet over 80 sailors competed in six races, enabling one discard. Dramatically a number of boats received a black flag in the second race, including overall winner Archie.

Congratulations to Club member Tabitha Davies who finished as 2nd Girl (5th Overall).

Regatta Fleet

Regatta Fleet meanwhile managed eight races. Overall Regatta Fleet winner, Ben McEwen's scores were so consistent that after discards he counted only 1st places (his two discards were 3rds!).

Congratulations to Ben, and also to Junior Member Rupert Garlick who finished 2nd and Lizzie Hudson who finished 3rd Girl.
