Cruising Association presentation of the Hammett Trophy
On 23rd October, Royal Lymington Yacht Club member, Peter Bell, was presented with the Cruising Association's Hammett Trophy at a presentation lunch in the Limehouse HQ of the Cruising Association (CA).
Peter received the trophy for winning a log competition within the CA (which has 6,500 members), describing his adventures along the Spanish and Portuguese coasts with crew members from the CA Crewing Service. Due to Covid, the crew did not have a chance to meet in person until when they met in Spain, but a zoom meeting was held beforehand.
The trophy was presented to Peter by Mike Golding OBE, a professional racing sailor, round the world race winner, multiple world champion and global record breaker (and according to Peter, "a jolly good egg to go with it!").
The Hammett Trophy
Introduced for the 2019 season, The Hammett Trophy is named after former CA vice-president, Brian Hammett, who died in 2018. Brian was also principal of the CA's training establishment and was passionate about getting people out on the water.
The Hammett Trophy is awarded for the best log submitted by crew or skippers who have used the CA's Crewing Service for the voyage being described.
Congratulations!
Our congratulations to Peter. A cruising sailor, Peter and his wife Mary have just completed the circumnavigation of Iberia, clockwise, with the same crew and the same boat. The portion with the two extra crew was part of that trip.
