The RLymYC Caribbean Rally - May 2022
Once a year, the RLymYC Cruising Sub-Committee usually arranges a charter cruise. This involves skippers chartering sail or motorboats in the chosen cruising area somewhere in the world. In 2022 our rally will be in Grenada in the Caribbean.
Our Centenary Rally will start on the evening of Friday 13th May 2022 in the Grenada Yacht Club. Club members, Tim and Mayumi Knight, are now based in Grenada and are very enthusiastic to show us the wonderful cruising ground as well as life on Grenada. Tim is planning a Zoom meeting in December - if you are interested in joining the Rally and would like to find out more, please contact Nigel Lang and Sue Sutherland (Cruising Sub-Committee) via the Club Office for details of the meeting.
A "freestyle" rally with many opportunities!
This is very much a "freestyle" rally which will enable you to organise your own itinerary ashore and on the water. It would be good to see as many members as possible, particularly any who may be cruising that area of the Caribbean.
The proposed itinerary includes:
- Thursday 12th May: Salsa at the Brewery
- Friday 13th May: BBQ Band Dancing at Grenada Yacht Club
- Saturday 14th May: Walking with beer and 200 others
- Sunday 15th May: F1 at the Brewery for Lewis Hamilton fans!
Tim has suggested a number of land-based events and activities, including:
- Charity poker run
- Waterfall swim (travel by bus)
- Turtle watch (see leatherback turtles in the north of the island)
- Hobie waves (Hobie cat sailing with cocktails on the lightship and beach pool at La Phare Bleu)
Tim recommends the following sailing destinations:
- St George's (large marina)
- Ile de Ronde (overnight with diving next day, 4 hours from St George's)
- Frigate Islands
- Carriacu (no marinas - Tyrell Bay, Sandy Island, Anse La Roche in the north of the island)
- Petit St Vincent
- Grenada (many options in the south of the island)
