Who remembers Jack Bryans’ 47ft yawl Cheemaun?
An appeal for any information, photos or memories…
The new owner of this beautiful yacht hails from France and has contacted the club to ask if any of our members recall her. She was a Club boat, belonging to Jack Bryans, Commodore from 1958 to 1964. Jack bought her in 1953, when she was two years old, and cruised and raced her successfully during the '50s and '60s. She later went through a series of owners and changes of name, currently she is
Ismana and registered in La Rochelle. Under her new owner, she is undergoing major renovation, berthed in the marina at Rochefort on the Charante, adjacent to the restored former naval-building yard of the French kings and later of Napoleon.
The former Cheemaun, sailing in rather chillier waters, under
the red ensign - still exhibiting her fine Laurent Giles lines.
The owner is asking if any club members have memories of her life under Jack’s hand at the wheel, and if there are any stories or photos they might care to share with him. Please get in touch with Graham Clarke, Club Historian here or 01590 671177 if you can help. Many thanks, in advance for your assistance.
Centenary appeal to all members
Please dig out any items, photos or memories of early club life, that may be lurking in the recesses of cupboards, lofts or minds. All will be gratefully received, carefully looked after and promptly returned, once copies taken for the archive. Please email the Club Historian Graham Clarke, here or 01590 671177 if you can help.
