Easter fun for Mariners
Our new junior fleet, the Mariners, started with great success on Easter Monday with 22 children taking part in a scavenger hunt. This consisted of clues ranging from Dan Bran to the top the Town Quay. Unfortunately on the day the weather was not in our favour and we had more wind then we bargained for, so some of the children decided to complete the task by foot, but many of our juniors set sail in the hope of getting some much needed time on the water after lockdown. Many managed to complete some of the clues by water and on land, a few others managed to complete the adventure all the way to the Town Quay against the tide and the strong easterly wind. There were plenty of "sweet incentives" throughout the session as well as an Easter egg hunt at the end for all participants after boats were safely packed away.
Wednesday afternoon sessions in all weathers
Our more recent three sessions on a Wednesday afternoon have also had varying weather conditions, from no wind to “blowing old boots”. During the “no wind” session we had great fun teaching the Mariners how to row the club tenders. This resulted in a "blind man rowing race" (where some of the Mariners decided to go a bit off course depending on their navigator!) and a game of tag on the water using a foam ball. Our other two sessions have included a game of fetch using tennis balls, exchanging them for chocolate as they were collected, and this last Wednesday was a blast up and down the river where capsizing was practiced many a time!
It has been great to see so many participants at the Mariners sessions; with more than 20 different members throughout the month. Here’s to more sessions and some more adventures including our monthly adventure days starting in June. Thanks to all parents and helpers, it would not of been as big of a success with out you all, so thank you.
