Our growing 29er fleet excited to be back out training!
After the frustrations of lock down, the Royal Lymington 29er fleet kicked off the year with no less than 11 boats taking part in 5 superb, if very cold days of training over the Easter holidays. Organised by Class captain Phil Lightbody and led by coaches Hattie Rogers and Ross Banham, existing teams were able to dust off the cobwebs, whilst several newcomers were welcomed to the fleet.
This was followed by the first event of the year – a ‘warm up’ regatta of sprint racing held in Weymouth last weekend. With exams looming, many of our sailors were unable to attend but, with some mixing up of pairings, 4 boats made the trip. Ten races were completed over the two days in light to medium, shifty conditions.
Cousins Oliver Vines and Sam Webb teamed up to sail a very consistent series with a 1st and 2nd thrown in, to finish 4th overall, 1st boys and 1st juniors (U17). Close behind in 6th place and 1st mixed pair, was Ella Lightbody, sailing with coach Ross Banham in the absence of her normal partner. Santi Cosby and George May took 13th overall in their first regatta together, and Annabelle Vines and Cameron Sword, also in a new partnership, were placed 14th and 2nd mixed pair.
We look forward to seeing this new fleet go from strength to strength.
