Annual Dinner
Saturday 20th November, 19:00 for 19:30
We are delighted to welcome Dee Caffari MBE, to the Royal Lymington Yacht Club on Saturday 20th November as our guest, and speaker for the Club's Annual Dinner. You will also enjoy a 4-course meal along with the presentation of our most prestigious Club trophies. Tickets are £59 per person and the dress code is Black Tie.
Dee Caffari is one of Britain’s most inspirational women. She will bring alive the drama, the challenges and the lessons hard learnt during her world-record setting voyages circumnavigating the world.
In 2006 Dee became the first woman to sail solo around the world – west about (the ‘wrong way’), non-stop. In 2009 her 6th place finish in the Vendée Globe made her the first woman to sail solo and non-stop in both directions around the globe.
She made her debut in the Volvo Ocean Race competing as part of the all-female Team SCA in the 2014-15 edition, before moving on to skipper her own team. As skipper of the Volvo 65 'Turn the Tide on Plastic' - a mixed, youth focused team with a strong sustainability message - Dee completed her sixth lap of the planet in the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18. Amongst her crew were Irish 2016 silver medallist Annalise Murphy, Bianca Cook NZ and now spearheading an America’s Cup campaign and Bleddyn Mon tactician on Sir Ben Ainsley’s America’s Cup 2020 bid.
Dee is a woman who knows her ocean racing, having also competed in the Vendée Globe, the Global Challenge, the Barcelona World Race and four transatlantic races. She also holds the female crewed monohull Round Britain and Ireland speed record, a record she established in June 2009, with her SCA crewmate Sam Davies.
Outside of sailing, Dee is the author of – ‘Against the Flow’ - an inspiring story of a teacher turned record breaking yachtsman.
