Important update from our Commodore Phil Lawrence
Following the easing of Government restrictions on the hospitality industry in July, we have been reviewing with Mosimann’s the bar and restaurant arrangements in the Club. Together with Mosimann’s we have also considered feedback from Members on the current service and menu offerings. The following changes are being introduced:
-
Restaurant tables in the river room will be offered full table service and can be reserved on-line https://rlymyc.org.uk/ashore/book-table or by calling the restaurant direct line – 01590 671751
-
Reservations are no longer required for tables in all other areas of the Club including the bar seating, upper and lower balconies and the island room. Drinks and food orders for these areas will be taken at the bar.
-
In order to minimise crowding, we request that drinks and food are not consumed on the bar.
-
Sandwiches have been added to the lunchtime menu, except on Sundays when a special Sunday lunch menu is offered.
-
Crisps, nuts and similar snacks are now available at the bar
-
‘Fast’ food options are available after Thursday evening keelboats
-
A full cooked breakfast is available on Saturday and Sunday mornings (Highly recommended by all accounts!)
-
Tea and coffee are available throughout opening hours
-
Updated separate lunch and dinner menus will be introduced at the beginning of September.
Severe staff shortages are continuing to be felt throughout the hospitality industry, both locally and nationally, and Mosimann’s are no exception. Considering these staff shortages, Mosimann’s wish to offer Members a full service five days a week rather than a ‘stretched’ service seven days a week. We have therefore agreed for the interim, that from the beginning of September the bar and restaurant will not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. Existing event commitments on those days during the Autumn will be fulfilled and the Club will be working to rearrange or service other regular activities on those days. The Clubhouse will remain open to Members seven days a week.
For the remainder of August, the bar will be open on Mondays until 2100 and on Tuesdays from 1000 to 1600, but unfortunately there will not be a food service on those days.
The existing point of sale and payment systems in the bar and restaurant have become extremely unreliable and are regularly causing service delays to Members.
From the beginning of September, we are therefore introducing a new modern system used by many hospitality businesses that is fit for purpose.
As part of this system change, we are moving away from taking payments from membership cards and payments will only be made by credit and debit cards or, for the more technically minded, from phones and other devices. This will save you the inconvenience of constantly topping up or holding cash balances on your cards. It will also facilitate splitting payments for groups.
Your full members discount will still apply to all bar and restaurant pricing and will be automatically applied on production of your membership card. A detailed bill will be available for every transaction.
The Club will refund all residual card balances or deduct them from your subscription renewal in September and October
The outsourcing of our food and beverage operations to a commercial partner is a key pillar in our strategy to strengthen the Club finances and improve the quality of services to Members. The recent feedback to Flag Officers and General Committee members has been that the food quality has improved significantly, but there have been some frustrations with service and variety. I hope these changes will address those issues and you will support the restaurant and bar and enjoy the hospitality offered at your Club. We will continue to work closely with Mosimann’s to respond to feedback from Members and further develop the service offering.
